Here is the question: Are you ready for some over the top; and we don’t mean in that Bruce-Willis-backwards-wearing-hat sort of way? Well THQ has officially announced Saint’s Row: The Third is headed YOUR way this holiday season.
From the press release we quoth:
Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to a new city, playing out the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen. Strap it on.
THQ exec VP Danny Bilson was quick to contrast Saint’s 3 with GTA-from-whence-it-sprung, saying “Saints Row: The Third puts you on top of the world, right at the beginning of the game, with all the perks that go along with being the head of an elite criminal organization. There’s no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm.”
Saint’s Row: The Third is scheduled for a holiday 2011 release on 360, PC, and PS3. GameInformer’s April issue will have a cover story and first details on the title.
Are you digging on some Saint’s Row action? Do you like the idea of starting the game with all the goodies that usually take a play-through to acquire? Issue a statement of your own in the comments!

  2. Well I dont really like Saint’s Row style… it seems to me a bit to childish … or something like that, but after I got over the fact that the games is more about fun than about the storyline (I am a big RPG player) or something like that.. I had some good times with Saint’s 2… So I think the new one will be the same… a lot of fun, but no depth to the story or to the characters… anyway I hope for the best
And about the fact that you start from “the top” it seems to me something really nice… Everyone likes to be “the boss” … I have noticed that more and more games allow you to experience something like that… (for example in fable 3 you got to be king, in assassin’s creed brotherhood you got you’re “minions”…)

  3. The last ones were just cheap GTA knock offs with no story and crappy arcade missions/gameplay that was way too shallow. Doubt this will be any different.

As for the “There’s no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions” statement, that is a shame as these missions provide immersion and character depth and development. Why rip on GTA when they blow you out of the water with each new title?
