If you’re one of those gamers that felt the original Halo game, Combat Evolved, was the best in the series, then Fall 2011 just might make for a marvelous time. According to Joystiq, who cites unnamed “sources” in a recent post on the matter, a full visual overhaul of the game is slated to launch on the Xbox 360 this fall, and an upgraded resolution isn’t all that is coming to the long-rumored re-release…newly designed art assets will also accompany the game, as well as the new control schemes introduced in the later entries of the series.

Saber Interactive, the team behind Timeshift and and upcoming Namco game Inversion, is the alleged team developing the game (again, according to these “sources”), and the word in the galaxy is that an engine other than the Reach engine is being used for development. No official word on that has been released yet, however.

The reboot will support 1080p and 3D visuals, so a lot of new content is being packed into this relaunch of an Xbox classic.

No word on online multiplayer, though online co-op is being thrown around the dev office we hear.
Expect Halo: Combat Evolved to launch November 15, 2011, exactly 10 years after the original launch for the original Xbox. Are you guys psyched for this re-release? Would online multiplayer with that godly pistol just flat out rule?! Say “HALO” to the comments section below and speak your mind!

  1. This is good news ONLY IF it is just a visual update. every moment in the game has to be accurate to the original. every cutscene has to be accurate shot by shot. The music and dialogue has got to be precise. It has got to be all intents and purposes the 1st game but with todays visuals.

  3. As much as I’m sure lots of people are going to love this…I on the fence about it despite the amount of fun I had with Halo CE.

One thing is for sure…they can’t keep making remakes…I guess I was eager to see a new direction from a group that might have had fresh ideas.

  5. There needs to be a visual update, a whole new multiplayer, and the story needs to be more than just Combat Evolved. I would love to follow Chief through Reach and then through Combat Evolved. This would be Microsoft’s first remake and they need to get it right.
