The Latest

We’ve known that Battlefield 3 has been in the works for a while now, but today we finally get some insight into what the latest iteration of the long-running franchise will deliver – and it’s sounding pretty awesome.

An official site for the game has been launched and from it, we learn that Battlefield 3, which is currently scheduled to release this Fall, is being developed by DICE and powered by the next generation Frostbite 2 engine which aims to deliver more “real as hell” combat than every before.
As the description on the website states:

One moment you may be marching down a hilltop listening to the hypnotic sound of a firefight in the distance or admiring the way the light reflects off the smoke plumes of ground to air missiles rising from the city you’re about to engage.  The next you’re on an urban street, surrounded, claustrophobic, fighting for your life and looking eight ways at once with all your senses on high alert, chilled at the knowledge that the building you’re hiding behind can be your best friend or your worst enemy.  Welcome to Battlefield 3.

Welcome indeed – and once you’re there, the gang at Game Informer delivers word that you’ll find the return of fighter jets, the ability to go prone, and 64 player multiplayer greeting you like a shotgun to the face. That’s what we know right now, but we’ll of course keep you posted on any new details as they emerge. In the meantime, check out this teaser trailer and then feel free to share your thoughts, hopes, and expectations relating to the highly-anticipated Battlefield 3 in the comments section below.

  10. 64 players…Thank the fucken lord of gaming. That means big maps, dedicated servers and jets. It’s a good step in the right direction…specially with crysis 2 (should be called crysis 0.5) with it’s 6v6 across all platforms…that’s a really big let down when you game with a group that far exceeds 12 people regularly.

Now lets hope for battle recorder, proper punkbuster support with screenshot functionality, comm rose, decent VOIP, and most importantly proper pc mouse functions.

Promise that and show it, and I say we have a winner.

Whats odd that nowhere says that its a team based shooter. oO
So far its only one player alone and a reverence to CoD.
