Harmonix has revealed that they will be stopping RBN support for the Wii version of Rock Band 3, citing limited demand as the reason.
“With the smaller online install base, limited demand for releases so far and the significant amount of work it takes for our producers and audio team to convert and process these additional tracks, we’re no longer able to continue submitting RBN content to the Wii,” says a spokesperson.
However, they went on to say that “regular Wii DLC, and RBN releases for the 360 and PS3 will continue uninterrupted.”
Additionally, it has been revealed that the second iteration of the Rock Band Network will be launching on February 15. The Rock Band Network 2.0 roll-out was detailed on the Creators website, and also showed key dates that contributors will want to keep in mind.
On January 18, the new version of the RBN audition and submission program, Magma, is planned to be available, while Rock Band 3’s Audition Mode will launch on January 24. Submissions for Rock Band Network 1.0 will need to be in by January 28, with February 14 being the day when it will be shut down to make way for RBN 2.0. All RBN songs after that point will require Rock Band 3.
So music game fans, if you haven’t yet upgraded to Rock Band 3 and are a fan of the community offerings over RBN, you’d best get to upgrading.
