Konami has given fans of the long-running Silent Hill franchise something to smile about today as the first batch of screens and target release date for the latest iteration of the franchise, Downpour, have been revealed.
The screens, which you can check out right here, focus on the game’s eerie setting (as one might suspect) and characters while giving some insight into the rain-soaked environments you’ll experience in your return to Silent Hill.
Here’s a description of the game:
Silent Hill: Downpour marks the series’ return to PlayStation3 and Xbox 360, and brings a completely original storyline which follows Murphy Pendleton, a convict stranded in the foggy, malevolent world of Silent Hill. Pendleton begins the game lost and alone in the woods on the outskirts of the fabled town, when his prison transport bus crashes…
What happens after this is up to the player, as Silent Hill: Downpour reveals a new, expansive environment that is similarly claustrophobic and where the player is never truly alone. The new assets demonstrate the highly detailed environments the game enjoys, a sneak preview of the town and two new areas: The Diner and The Devil’s Pit.
As for the date, Konami has confirmed that the title will target an Autumn 2011 release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Interesting, but no way am I sold on it yet. Silent hill hasn’t exactly wowed me in recent memories.
One look at the trailer shouts “Alan Wake 2″, i still am exited but i at least want some more creativity backing off from homecoming.
Ill play it
CHeers
looks like Alan Wake to me…. lame….. why won’t they leave this franchise to japanese?? true masters of Silent Hill! It all went downhill when americans took over…. :(
Well, Downpour is being developed by a Czech team called Vatra Games, not Americans. Though that is not exactly reassuring, seeing as they have not released a single game yet. They do have some experience from their previous studios, like Illusion Softworks (now known as 2K Czech), so they are able people. I also have to point out that Downpour doesn’t look like Alan Wake. You have to remember that Alan Wakes already looks like Silent Hill merged with Twin Peaks.
I consider myself a fan of the Silent Hill series, even though I played only the first four games. I have yet to try out Origins, Homecoming and Shattered Memories. But the sentiment I mostly encounter is that fans who have played these rather want the vibe of the first four to come back. If that happens, I won’t be at a “disadvantage”. The screens don’t look too shabby but I’m not sure how the open world concept will work out. Silent Hill is mainly about isolation, personal horrors and maybe claustrophobia. These are not the kind of qualities I associate with open world games so it will be hard to pull off.
not even close to as good, but at lest he tried to match the feel I guess still disappointment
