The basketball franchise, formerly known as NBA Live, was delayed back in September. The company cited "unfinished work" as the reason for the delay. EA Sports is committed to releasing quality games that not only beat their competition, but also deliver quality, breakthrough, experiences. The cancellation of NBA Elite '11 shows that there was little, to zero, confidence that the title could deliver on either of those missions.
The game was originally supposed to be released during the holiday season, with a free copy of NBA Jam as a consolation for the delay.
While EA Sports has not offered additional information, it is likely that a mix of the late release and rival title NBA 2k11 receiving amazing reviews and sales.
While the cancellation is disappointing for EA, I am sure next year's title is already in the making.

well I couldn’t care less about the game that’s the same for couple of iterations only with changed font, but i’m a little concerned about the people, the devs, who worked on it. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna get their money for the project (as long as they had a contract with EA) but it has to be frustrating when all the work you’ve put into developing a game is going to waste :/
Though Im not much of a sports fan, this does come as a surprise. EA is usually not the type of company that would cancel a sports title. They always make big bucks with any sportstitle, so that they cancelled this one, came kinda out of left field.
They could always put Lebron James on the cover and rename it NBA Elitist.
