Fans of the now defunct Ensemble Studio’s Halo Wars probably have something other than thanks to give to Microsoft this week as it’s recently been revealed that the official website for the Xbox 360 RTS, released roughly two years ago, will be going dark come December 15, 2010.
All leaderboards, online stat-tracking, and even the game’s official forums are going bye-bye, leaving many a community member in an uproar as pointed out by Kotaku. Instead of having their own place to call home, the Halo Wars crowd will be integrated into Halo Waypoint, which as one poster states will see
“Possibly the most close-knit video game forum community tossed (in) with a bunch of Reach junkies.”
Of course, the move is being presented as a GOOD THING that will see the forums being moved to a “bigger, better website” while being moderated more often with all of the bells and whistles of Halo Waypoint being applied to Halo Reach discussion moving forward. As for losing he online leaderboards and stat-tracking, the moderator making the post suggests that fans “enjoy the time you have here on HaloWars.com and print-screen or copy-paste any of your favorite old posts and/or game history data, since that will all be taken offline on December 15th. We won’t be carrying over accounts, posts, or anything else between the two forums.”
Are YOU a fan of Halo Wars? Have you been utilizing the game’s official website? Was it only a matter of time before this sort of thing went down? Let us know how you feel about the switch in the comments section below.
This is really depressing, Halo Wars was probably one of my favorite games.
I love Halo Wars its a good title I liked it as it was clearly built from the ground up for the console as opposed to many of the other rts titles which feel like ports for the sake of it. As for the forums as long as the servers for the game remain up then its all good, a side note why the hell did they close Ensemble? they made so many good games back when the pc was the most dominate gaming platform.
