The Latest

After reading Johnathon's post about Activision earlier this week, I was scared shitless for the future of Cod. However those fears were dismissed today as in a recent sit down with Industry Gamers, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg announced that Activision will never resort to a subscription based service:

"Are we going to be charging for multiplayer? The answer is no. The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience and we'll never charge for that. It's not going to be something we'll attempt to monetize; it's part of the package."

Well, that's one less thing to worry about ;)

  6. Chances Eric Hirshberg dissappears in the next few days and is never heard from again?

Joking. Saying they’re never, ever going to charge is bold, not a COD fan but this might make other companies who were thinking of charging think twice… for that reason alone, thumbs up.

  8. Ha…I’m with Lostnumber on this one – Hirshberg is going to find himself acquainted with a cheap Persian rug and the bottom of a river.

I find this unilateral declaration of intent to not charge very suspect, especially considering that the COD point in-game economy seems like a thinly veiled alpha test for a microtransaction system. I find it difficult to believe that such a thing was put in place with no thought to future monetized systems.

  10. Talk is cheap. Just because these guys say this now, doesn’t mean they won’t do it in the future.
