Do you believe in magic? Gaming's favorite punchline has been printed on real, physical discs and is expected to hit its June 14th release date in North America. 2K Games and Gearbox Software announced in a recent press release that, after more than 15 years of development, Duke Nukem Forever will release. This also means that for customers who preordered the game and are part of the First-Access Club, the demo will go live on June 3rd. Interestingly enough, GamePro recently contacted GameStop to see if they would honor decade-old preorders for the game, to which GameStop surprisingly responded:
"With a long-anticipated release like Duke Nukem Forever, we encourage our customers who pre-ordered more than a year ago to verify their reservation with their local store prior to launch. Provided the customer has a receipt, we will honor even those pre-orders taken long ago. At this time, we expect that all pre-order customers will receive Duke's Big Package at the time of purchase, regardless of when the reservation was made."
So for those of you Duke Nukem faithful (like Gearbox president Randy Pitchford) who may have put money down at Rhino, EB, or even Babbages, check it out. The marketing and excitement for the game is certainly ramping up, and early press coverage is mostly positive. Pitchford even called it "a once-in-a-lifetime opus of interactive entertainment that reminds me once again why Duke Nukem is our King." Although, I'm not sure if he counts. In any case, looks like we'll be seeing a lot of alien slaying and pig fighting in the next month, so if you were holding back your love and faith, you are free to dole it out.
Who thought we'd see Duke Nukem before the rapture? Come get some.
