Valve has beamed up the official details of Portal 2‘s Steam-PS3 cross-pollination functions.
We’ve puzzled out quite a few of them already, such as cross-platform matchmaking, gameplay, achievements, and Steam Cloud support, which will allow PS3 players to save and pick up the game from any PS3. PS3 saves won’t be transferable to PC or Mac accounts. Portal likes to keep it in the console family.
Trophies, on the other hand, are whores–achievements earned on PSN will automatically transfer to the linked PC/Mac Steam account. A lot like Herpes. However, anything earned on PC/Mac will not transfer to PSN. A lot like racist Herpes.
Each copy of Portal 2 for PS3 will come with a one-time-use code to download the game through Steam, and in case you were curious, the PS3 disc won’t do anything except get really warm if you try to stick it in your computer drive.
The Steam overlay will provide access to PSN and Steam friends once the accounts are linked, including chat functions, profiles, friend requests and game invites.
Check out the full list of functions on the Steam Support page.
Portal 2 comes out April 19, next Tuesday. How stoked are you for these functions?
