DC announced today, that Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham City would be getting a 6-issue miniseries serving as a prequel and bridge between the two games titled, BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY.
The series will be penned by Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini, who also wrote the scripts to Arkham Asylum and the upcoming Arkham City, and will be drawn by Arkham City concept artist Carlos D'anda. Here's the lowdown from DC on what you can expect from the series:
"BATMAN: ARKHAM City picks up one year after the original game, where former Arkham Warden turned newly elected Mayor of Gotham City Quincy Sharp has decided to close down the infamous institution. In its stead, he establishes "Arkham City," the new maximum security "home" for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insance criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, inmates can roam free and do whatever they want as long as they don't try to escape. To run this prison, Sharp has appointed Dr. Hugo Strange, a man who knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman.
Each issue of the miniseries will be available day-and-date digitally worldwide for $2.99 each. These releases will alternate with 8-page digital-first interludes that will expand on the story included in the miniseries. Written by Dini and drawn by a variety of artists, these digital stories will focus on The Dark Knight’s many enemies as they vie for power in this new city within a city. Each eight-page digital-first interlude will be available for .99 cents, releasing in between issues of the miniseries, and will later be included in print in the BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY collected edition."
Sounds pretty awesome, but then again I am a huge Batman fan, so you can expect that I'll be picking these up or maybe even dish out the extra cash for that "collected edition" whenever that's announced. Check out the cover of the first issue below:
it’ll probably be a bust, because we will be limited by them to use only the (i.e.) TV to freakin’ read the “DLC”…but hey, i might be wrong
On an iPad/Tablet, that sounds cool. On a console…reading a comic on your TV…sounds stupid…
To be honest this dont sound like dlc stuff to me.This sound like digitally distributed comic for game systems.Which probably a friggen great idea.The price run you for about the average comic.So to me it just DC trying to move some comics.It probably bother some people who not in to comics but as for some one who is.I can pretty much guess what transgress after asylum.May be I’m just use to Publisher trying to move books so much and this one not being the worst just make me indifferent.
Sounds interesting, but I ask one thing, why can’t the whole series, physical and digital comics be released as one big, hard back comic for say $15 or £12? Oh wait, i know why, DC wouldn’t get as much of our money.
But what annoys me is that if these events between AA and AC are so important that we need to know them otherwise we won’t understand elements of AC’s plot then why not give it to us as free comic with the game or as a playable prologue at the beginning of the game? Oh wait, again, DC wouldn’t get our money.
I’m not a major comic book fan but sorry, this is just not even respectable, even to me. DC are getting enough in royalties because Rocksteady are using their property, do they have to charge extra to know this stuff, how Arkham City come about? I bet Rocksteady had some great speech ready for Christopher Lee (Hugo Strange) to read to describe how he’d become head of the Arkham correctional institution and how he come to build Arkham City but then at the last moment, DC walked in and said, we could just turn this plot element into comic. I bet you that they’ll be no mention of Hugo’s rise to his position or the birth of Arkham city. No, you’ll have to pay DC to know that.
