The Latest

Kairosoft’s Game Dev Story is a delightful simulation game that puts you in charge of a development studio as they adhere to dev cycles and stick within their budget while trying to earn money through outsourcing projects and making hit games. If you haven’t yet, check it out, it’s seriously awesome. We’ll wait…

Back now? Good. Well, the developers of that gem have released another title via the Japanese App Store, called Waiwai! The Game Dealer, which has you running a video game retail store as opposed to a development studio.
The Game Dealer puts you in the shoes of a game store boss, requiring you to manage your employees, keep your customers happy, and dabble in video game studio stock trade. Additionally, you’ll have to offer food to your in-store customers, although I can’t personally say if being offered a grilled cheese sandwich would make me more or less likely to set foot in a GameStop.

No word yet on whether or not we’ll see this one here anytime soon or if it will remain Japan only, but at the very least, we have Game Dev Story 2 to look out for at some point. Do you want to see The Game Dealer available outside of Japan? Let us know in the comments!

  2. Of course! I was one of the last employees to work for Funcoland, helping them transition into Gamestop. Before the advent of internet and online games and sales, the whole experience of gaming on a retail level was like those old school D&D types strategy stores...lots of shrinkage, too!

I would be interested in seeing the Japanese perspective in Waiwai
