While the focus for Mixed Martial Arts gaming has been decidedly fixed on THQ’s UFC: Undisputed franchise and now EA’s challenger EA Sports MMA, it’s easy to forget about 505 Games’ dark horse in the race, Supremacy MMA. Today we have some big news coming out of their camp, as they’ve revealed that former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver will be lending his battered likeness and story to the game.
Focusing on the back alley brawling of the ‘old school’ days of the sport, Supremacy MMA takes away from the more professional elements of games in the genre, and using Pulver’s image, history, and fighting consultancy and should do a lot to lend that some credence.
“I was there during the early days of MMA and came up when things were just out of control crazy, so stories like mine are perfect for a game that’s taking things back old school like Supremacy MMA,” said Pulver. “The truth is there are thousands of fighters out there struggling for a shot, whether they fight underground, amateur or at the highest levels of the sport. They’re doing it, and Supremacy MMA tells those kinds of stories, so I’m glad that this is the game I get to be a part of.”
Will having Pulver on board give Supremacy MMA the chops to take on the heavy-hitters from THQ and EA Sports? Guess we’ll find out this summer. In the meantime, check out this sweet trailer put together from the development team at Kung Fu Factory.
