PRESS RELEASE
Electronic Arts Inc. announced today the return of SSX, one of the most critically-acclaimed videogame properties of all-time. A stunning reinvention of the classic action snowboarding franchise, SSX: Deadly Descents packs adrenaline into every run with compelling characters and heart-pumping adventures as riders battle the most treacherous and diverse mountain ranges on Earth.
“An entire genre was born from the original SSX a decade ago, and it’s time to reboot one of the most popular franchises of all-time in an unpredictable and unexpected way,” said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. “Fans have been begging for this since the launch of this generation of consoles, and we have an experience that will be worth the wait. This franchise has always been about racing, tricks, characters and fun – SSX: Deadly Descents will deliver all of that, and more, on a global scale, with rich online experiences, and with the sense of adventure never before imagined on a snowboard.”
Redefining the SSX franchise, SSX: Deadly Descents will pit riders versus both mountain and man. Players will explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team will travel the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them. From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade. And the mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX: Deadly Descents the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.
SSX: Deadly Descents is in development at EA Canada under the EA SPORTS™ brand, and it will be available for the Xbox 360and the PlayStation 3. The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI.
So, what do you think? Will the new SSX live up to the hype? Do you like the new look? Sound off in the comments with your thoughts!
Am i the only one who doesn’t want SSX “redefined” ?
Just make more of what made SSX/Tricky/3 great, the improvements that came with each title, the fun, more of that, we’ll ignore everything that came after 3 if you just do it fucking right this time.
The trailer is rubbish, nothing in the spirit of SSX, so here’s hoping they do like Cole in inFamous and go back to what people want.
A cycnical point of view? yeh, but it’s been 7 years now since a good SSX came out, after 3 stellar games it went completely down the drain, it’s time for SSX to be back, properly.
Am i filled with confidence? no, even less so after looking at the blurb on the official site.
*sigh*
Ha.. I’ve seen comments all over the place.. Cats are NOT pleased with what they’ve heard. I can understand, but I’m not really opposed to something more wild in scale and focus. Especially considering that the dude that boarded over the edge of that mountain broke out a wingsuit on his way down. If that’s a part of the gameplay, and they can bring an excitement to the experience, I’m definitely sold.
I do hope they keep the original game’s focus on competitive racing and tricks in a separate mode or whatever, but that was not really enough to sell the game to me. This trailer is a bit more intriguing. Of course, it could all be a bunch of bullshit if the game is trash. Can’t wait to find out.
I’m pretty sure the only acceptable SSX is an SSX with over the top stunts and cartoon-esque graphics. Not to say cartoony, but at least exaggerated.
Not to say that change isn’t good, and that I won’t play the game, it’s just not what one expects when they hear SSX.
just because it looks different doesnt mean it wont still have the spirit of the old ssx games.
if it still has the complete spirit of the old game but looks 100% different is it still not a ssx game?
ill admit from what ive seen id be surprised if that were 100% accurate but i swear all gamers really want is “more maps, more weapons, and a new mechanic” and its a perfect sequel.
wheres the open mindedness? its as if this one fails they cant go back to the old style
In my opinion the trailer looked silly. Artificialy hardcore, if you know what I mean.
So what’s next? Pikmin: deadly plants?
I want SSX3 with this gen graphics. I don’t want SSX redefined!
FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU
Why not have both “wild” and “structured” sides to the gameplay? Two modes. Holy craaaaaaaap I’m a genius. Probably.
when i first saw the trailer i thought it was gona be another shooter, then they put ssx up there wtf is wrong with ea they didnt need to redefine the franchise just make another badass game in the series, i dont know which company has gotten dumber over time Activision or EA, eh actually its not that hard…
