Chances are you’ve already heard about the Tomb Raider reboot that’s currently in the works over at Crystal Dynamics and you’re privy to the various tidbits that are indicative of an entire new direction for the franchise, but, as we all know, seeing is believing, which is why it’s good to finally see some screens of the new title in action.

Game Informer, who unearthed all of the new Tomb Raider goodness in the first place, has posted several screens and pieces of artwork from the project which go a long way towards reinforcing the revitalization of the franchise. Things look different – WAY different, and I think it’s safe to say that influences from huge blockbusters like Uncharted are playing a key role in the creative this time around.
So, check out the images here and then head back to share your thoughts on the new-look Lara.

  4. Different is good. Very, very good in this case. I didn’t think this would happen, but I’m seriously waiting forward to this game. Yey, Tomb Raider is back!!

  6. looks alright but i would hate it if it was all puzzles and hardly any action :/

i love that new edgy vibe that they have but they better not make the same mistake as metroid and make lara all wimpish, even though it would be awesome to play a game were the main character faints every time you see blood =D

  8. looks great!. Never played any of the games but if it can hold up to the Uncharted games i’m more than happy to play it. Quote

  10. I really like this shift in art direction.

[rant] “Which reminds me of how the new DMC was rejected by the fans for trying something new. And how Capcom made it about people being resistant to change.”

Here I am looking at a change that looks like it’s being well received – so maybe we do know what we want after all…" [/rant]

  12. Looking good so far. But for Lara, it’s all going to be about the gameplay

  14. tomb raider really needed this reboot, it’s not just about art direction, the whole franchise as been stagnant since, well since the first game i guess… so when the novelty wore off the game got really boring

die hard fans will obviously hate this change, but think about it, even Lara has the same “cartoonish” look from the first game in the most recent ones. you simply can’t not take her seriously, and while this is not a necessity the game really does tries taking Lara seriously

This new Lara is reboot in every sense and it looks awesome, fresh and intriguing, no more boobs bigger then her head and waist smaller than her wrist (exaggeration), aside from the first two games i never really were a fan of the franchise but i finally am looking forward for a tomb raider game

if they are not afraid of copying features from other games (aka Uncharted) then this should be a hell of game

  16. Looks hawt! Why does it have to be compared to UC though? I think Lara is badass enough to stand on her own merits.

  18. Not holding my breath as i can’t remember the last thing Tomb Raider that didn’t suck (just bought the original on the PSN and anniversary on the 360 recently to that extent)

I want TR to be good again but again, not holding my breath.

No more seeing how big Laras tits can get
No more spending all day outdoors (the clue’s in the fucking title… TOMB!)
No more linear areas that require no thinking to get from A to B and no brainer puzzles

  20. Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary were pretty well received. Underworld, not as good, but still decent fun.

So no, the series has not been awful after the first game.

People think Angel of Darkness and automatically jump to conclusions that the series was non-existant afterwards.

This reboot looks good, as long as they keep it about puzzle solving and doing crazy stunts. I’d hate to see Lara mow down half a battalion of soldiers…in fact, the bad parts of Tomb Raider Legend was the last boss, where there was zero puzzle solving.
