After kicking several thousand players off its servers back in October for using third party hacks, Blizzard has issued another mass banning on StarCraft 2 players caught using hacks and cheating. While no specific details as to why these players got kicked out, it would appear that this mass banning was in line with what the publisher did a couple of months ago.
On this most recent wave of bans, Blizzard issued the following statement:
“We recently issued a new round of account suspensions and bans to StarCraft II players who were in violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use for cheating and/or using hack programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair competition that’s essential to play on Battle.net, cheating and hacking can lead to stability and performance issues with the service. As always, maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we’ll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.”What do you SC2 players think of this? Had StarCraft 2 become a hacker’s paradise, or is Blizzard making a zerg hive out of a molehill?

i dont play starcraft 2 but im glad that the cheaters are not prospering.
admire blizzard for having the balls to ban the cheaters and not feel bad about it… I appreciate their dedication to keep the servers free of hackers and cheaters, i mean why would you allow someone to cheat on the online matches…
‘i suddenly stop, remembering something that DK,TG and B.A said about this’
The cheating-bans was about people hacking their games to get acheivements on singleplayer? Well i cant say anything good about that, i mean the achivements are there for people to say,
‘look, i compleated the entire campaign on the hardest setting, and finished all the objectivs. I earned that bragging right.’
If you cheat to get all the achivements, thats just plain stupidity, cause your not only proving you don’t appreciate the game for what it is, a strategy game that requires cunning and fast thinking, but also ‘strategic’ thinking…
Going through the game, beating it without a single lost unit and still getting everything we worked hard to achive? Good job blizzard, your doing what most gamecompanys should, stand up for the honest gamer who hates cheaters…
!!Warning, Random rambling…!!
Now, pirated games… who hasn’t done that among our millions of young poor people… i did that when i was younger, but it stopped when i discovered the best remedy at the time, which was 2004… STEAM! which was the main server to get my favorite game still… Half Life 2. Thought the download time was horrible… 56kb/s modem… we’ve had some increadible progress made since then… Dreamhack 2007 had 40(Fourthy) Gbits/s connection… Split on 10 455 computer connections… oh my gawd…
It’s nice they do this, but they should stop announcing this or try not to pull too much attention. They’re essentially just provoking hackers at this point. Especially now when they said it might affect service stability. Just for the fame, hackers will try to abuse it now even more than before.
Keep in mind, a hack creator does not have to hack by himself. He can add a tiny rootkit in the hack he’s publishing what could severely affect the service performance. If the hack is popular the outcome could be disastrous.
Not their smartest move to throw it out there like that.
