When BioWare revealed that Mass Effect 2, the stellar second entry to their epic sci-fi action RPG series, would be heading to the PlayStation 3, many PS3 gamers rejoiced, but were unsure of what the extra development time that it would take for the port to release would net them. After all, Xbox 360 gamers have been enjoying the exploits of Shepard and his motley gang of combat-ready misfits for almost a year now, scoring a bevy of DLC in that time. Not only that, but they’d still be joining the story in the middle, missing out on in first game (which won’t be seeing its way to PS3) and all the story revelations therein.

Fortunately, BioWare’s Jesse Houston has taken to the developer’s forums to explain just what PS3 gamers will find on the Blu-ray disc when they pick the game up early next year, and what they’ll be able to download.



“Of course Mass Effect 2 will be included. On top of that, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armour,” Houston explained in a forum post. “Also included is, as on Xbox 360 and PC, an access code to the Cerberus Network. This will give you instant access to the same great lineup of Downloadable Content such as Zaeed and Firewalker.”

Additionally, an interactive comic will ship with the game, which will bring PS3 newcomers up to speed and explain the events that transpired in the first Mass Effect. “BioWare Edmonton (the group that made Mass Effect 2) teamed up with the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics to create an interactive backstory,” Houston said. “While I can’t release all the details about this yet, what I can tell you is that we want to create a stunning visual experience that not only tells the core story elements of Mass Effect 1, but also is fully interactive allowing you to be faced with some of the major choices which will have consequences your Mass Effect universe. This interactive comic’s initial release will be exclusive to PS3 owners who would be otherwise unable to realize the full effect of choice in the Mass Effect universe and will be included on the Cerberus Network.”

Houston went on to mention exclusive DLC for the PS3, stating “There will also be some DLC Bundles, such as the Aegis Pack as well as exclusive both Free and Paid DLC for all PlayStation 3 owners such as the Recon Operations Pack.” However, after some negative comments, Houston seemed to rescind the statement and added an edit stating, “While I can’t go into details all of this content is or was available to Xbox/PC Owners but otherwise wouldn’t be available to PS3 owners. “ So, at this point it’s unclear just what PS3 owners can expect as far as exclusives down the line.
