The Latest

Hey gang, Lance here to let you know about a new feature coming to VideoGameHenchmen.com called “Meet A Dev!”. As the name implies, this running feature on VGH is designed from the ground up to give YOU, our awesome community, the chance to interact with game industry professionals.

While you’re sure to find a plethora of interviews with various game developers, artists and musicians all around the web, Video Game Henchmen wants to do things differently and give our valued community the time to shine in the spotlight by providing the questions we’ll submit to many of today’s top devs.
We’ll have a few standard questions included in every interview (which will take the form of a Q&A), but we really want you to get involved and help represent VGH’s community by submitting thought-provoking questions that will help deliver insight into the people behind the games we all know and love.

So, we’re kicking things off with Gearbox Software’s Creative Director Mikey Neumann. Mikey has been doing his thing in the gaming industry for the past seven years and is currently cranking out big budget games over at Gearbox. What is “his thing” you ask??? Well, you’re gonna have to supply some questions to find out! Of course, we’ll lead the way with questions for the man who has worked on such titles as Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Borderlands, and more, but we’ll leave the VGH Community to do its thing as we provide the chance to meet thy maker! Oh, one thing, the studio on the whole is pretty tight-lipped about Duke Nukem Forever, so don’t waste your time (or Mikey’s) digging for specifics on that particular project.

We’ll be posting Mikey’s replies to the best questions the VGH Community submits (as selected by team VGH), so be on the lookout for the answers in the inaugural edition of VideoGameHenchmen.com’s Meet A Dev soon.

As per usual, we’ll be submitting our “FAV FIVE” questions with each of these interviews – they’re kinda like the “R,S,T,L,N, E” of Wheel of Fortune in that we know most people wanna ask them, so we’ll do it for ya – the rest however is up to you!!!

FAV FIVE QUESTIONS WE”LL SUBMIT
1) Can you tell us a bit about your job on a day-to-day basis?
2) What’s the most exciting thing about working in the gaming industry for you?
3) Any aspects of the industry that you’re not particularly fond of?
4) Which titles do you consider to be the most influential to you?
5) Any advice for those seeking to break in to the biz?

Now, SUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS BELOW in the comments section and check back soon for the full interview!
Thanks for participating!!!

  1. Any news on Gearbox’s ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES?
I know Duke has the spot light at the moment but will Aliens be cut in line again by any possible Borderlands or Brothers in Arms sequels OR any other Gearbox games.

  2. Balthyer Says:
  3. I wonder how they came up with such a good soundtrack for Borderlands.
“Ain’t no rest for the wicked” by “Cage the Elephant”. Everytime I hear Cage the Elephant now, I jsut feel the urge to play Borderlands!

    But, my question:
Did the change of art-style for Borderlands have anything to do with Codehunters. And please, be honest, it has it’s similarities!

  5. Hey VGH, and Mikey!

I’d like to know if you could design any game, what kind of game would that be, and why?

  6. Wow, you guys are awesome.

I would like to ask him how he feels about console games and things like auto-aim, “PRESS X TO WIN GAME”, glowing interactive objects and seeing messages like “PRESS O TO JUMP” even 12 hours into a game. Essentially, does he feel console games are getting too easy (since anyone can finish any single player game now within hours) and if console game devs assume people aren’t smart enough to remember the jump key after using it hundreds of times already?

That’s something that always bugs me when I see console games.

  7. Blackknight Says:
  8. I like this new feature! As for my questions… I dunno, maybe from where do you get your inspiration, where do you think the gaming industry is going, what are gearbox’s plans for the future?

  9. ZombieToast Says:
  10. Hey Mike, just a couple simple questions.

    1. Gearbox has a certain sense of humor in their games. Is there some guy hired to crack jokes from 9 to 5?

    2. I heard a rumor (I made it up) that there was going to be a ClapTrap party game (ala Mario Party). Would you shed some light on this rumor?

  11. Left4DeadFan Says:
  12. Great new feature guys.
My question for Mikey: Whats your process for deciding a games style? In other words; how do you get ideas for the art/vibe of a game?
