The Latest

Alpha Protocol has certainly taken it's time to reach the desk of gamers around the world. Due to this long wait, it has made the graphics dated, even with the long production time the AI can still be buggy here and there, the stealth isn't as refined as Splinter Cell Conviction, and the cover combat system/combat in general isn't as refined as say Gears of War 2.

ALPHA PROTOCOL (XBOX 360,PS3,Microsoft Windows)
Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
Publisher: SEGA
Released: June 1, 2010

"WHERE'S MY MONEY."

However what I seem to be gathering from people is that they're looking at it through the glasses of being a Shooter, and action packed like a James Bond movie, 24's Jack Bauer, and even the Bourne movies. I can understand the mistake as the developers during the developer diaries did use those names during the interviews, so people got it into their head that you can act as they would in this game, and result in some pretty action heated scenes. This is mostly true as you can act as they would in conversation and this can result in some extreme consequences and even little consequences, however due to the dated combat mechanics it won't be as action packed as the player might first think. This is understandable as it is an RPG.

"GIVE ME MY GELATO, OR I WILL PERSUADE YOU WITH MY SPEECH SKILLS."

If players when they begin their game pick up their RPG glasses and try them on for a second and play it and view first and foremost as an RPG rather than a Splinter Cell Conviction and Gears of War 2 hybrid, they will begin to see the true beauty of this game. It reminded me of Deus Ex a cult classic, in which your every decision matters and I believe as time continues on people will be able to see the gold underneath the mess that has been left behind by some reviewers.

The game's diversity and scope is so grand that if you play if after three play throughs with different styles, the player will only see about 80% of the content. With the game's diversity I even found myself at times quickly thinking what would I do in this situation, which implemented my own morals and values into the game so you played as a virtual self if you were an agent trying to unravel the mysteries below the surface.

"Sneaky, Sneaky!"

Overall, if you're new to the RPG genre this game will not create an epiphany. It is more designed for those who want a deep and enriching experience. But if you've played RPGs before and have had a blast look no further than Alpha protocol, as it will satisfy your needs. Just don't expect a hybrid of Gears of War 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
